For anyone interested in developing a project that will enhance their local community, Donegal County Council has the training for you.

Through the EU funded LADDER project the Council will be hosting a two day training session for anyone interested in learning more about how small steps taken locally can have a greater impact on the world around us.

JoAnne Kilmartin, Project Co-ordinator is keen to engage with local people who are interested in learning more about how local actions can impact globally.

“For instance, there is a growing interest in locally produced foods and this is great not only in terms of health eating but also from a sustainable development perspective.  Food that is grown locally can reach our plates quickly reducing air miles and other transport costs and this will ultimately have a positive impact on climate change.”

“This training will allow participants an opportunity to explore how actions taken locally have an impact at a global level and vice versa how the global scenario should inform decisions taken locally and in particular the impact that these decisions have on local people”.

“We are working with Patsy Toland from Gorta Self Help Africa who is well known for his work in schools around the county and Patsy will facilitate this training.  Participants will also have an opportunity to develop projects and apply for grant aid to assist them in developing these ideas further”.

“This training will help inform people about development issues, mobilise greater public support for actions against poverty, give people tools to engage critically with global development issues as well as foster new ideas that will ultimately lead to a change in attitudes”.

Training will take place on 15 March and 7 April in Donegal Town and in Carndonagh on the 10th March and 8 April.  Training is free but booking is essential.  To book your place contact [email protected] or visit www.donegalcoco.ie .

This training is part of the DEAR EU Programme which focuses on development, education and raising awareness (DEAR) and Donegal County Council is one of 26 project partners and is the only Irish Local Authority participating in the project.
